The time signature on these tracks are difficult enough without singing but she is not just sing but harmonising as well

You’re not the first to ask the question about who’s playing drums on Carpenters records?
There are some very early recordings featuring Karen and if your collection includes their cover of The Beatles “Ticket to ride” that’s Karen on drums! Beyond that, The Carpenters relied heavily on “session player’s” especially “The Wrecking Crew”

She played all the tracks on ticket to ride (album), Now and Then (album) and half of Horizon (album). Management team claimed she didn’t have the right studio style, however for the first years of their career played all the drums live on stage, until management took that away from her too!!
