The SMS Trivia Question of the Week 10 / 20

Yes indeed, it’s Trivia Tuesday for October 20th! Brought to us, as they do, each week by all the Groovey people at Omnivore Recordings! Your number one place for all the music you didn’t know, you didn’t know! But! Hold the phone, cuz before we get to this weeks new trivia quiz, we want to recognize the brilliant readers who weighed in on last week’s question, which was: All about “Pen Names” or “Nom de plumes” we gave you 5 of our favorites, and asked you who they really were? First in, but with only part of the correct answers was relative new comer Clark Besch! Close but no cigar Clark, and we all know “Close” only counts in Horse shoes and Hand Grenades and… Covid 19! Next in was our old friend and one of the original “SMS Super Genius’s”  Mr. Steve Winogradsky! With all the right answers! Way to go brother Steven! And lastly, another relatively new comer Mr. Simon Craddock! Who cleverly pointed out that “Doctor Winston O Boogie is a great example of “Dock n Roll” Damn funny Simon!

But now! It’s time for the new Trivia Question of the week!…And this week it’s all about one word! You guessed it…“Zebra” And here is your question: Give us the titles to at least three Top 40 hits from the 60’s that include the word Zebra somewhere in the lyrics? Additionally give us the name of the artists  who recorded each song? Lastly, one of the three song’s also includes the word “Camel” which song includes the word “Camel” in the lyric? Finally, to achieve SMS Super Genius Status, GIVE US THE CAMEL’S NAME?

In Summary here’s what we need:

1) Give us the titles to at least 3 Top 40 hits from the 60’s whose lyrics include the word “Zebra ?

2) Give us the names of the 3 artists who recorded and released these three gems ?

3) One of these three songs also features the word “Camel” in the lyric, which song is it ?

4) And, to achieve the coveted status of “SMS Super Genius” What is the Camel’s name?

Just so we’re all clear, all 3 song’s have to be singles that charted in the top 40 on Billboards “Hot 100 Chart” in the 1960’s

  1. Okay, better late than never
Simon and Garfunkel. At the zoo
    Hendrix-Little Wing
Ray Stevens. Ahab the Arab-His camel was named Clyde..and he’d ride, silently through the night to the sultan’s tent and meet up with Fatima.

    • Hey Curtis!
Yes, Fatima, who was eating on a raisin and a grape and an apricot, a pomegranate a bowl of chitlins, three banana’s two Hershey bars and sipping on a R and C Cola!
A hab walked up to her and he said….You’ll have to take it from here cuz my Arabic is a little rusty
      Thanx,
      The Sultan

  2. 1st of all…..”YO…LASORDA!!! It could happen!
Well..my brain is being racked here. Lots of obscure oldies…but NOT the right answers.
I remember Maria Muldaur with “MIDNIGHT AT THE OASIS” …she’s got a Camel there.
Simon & Garfunkle with AT THE ZOO: Zebras are reationaires.
    Sopwith Camel..doesn’t count.
Jimi Hendrix wrote LITTLE WING, and
    has Butterflies and Zebras.
The old BONZO DOG BAND (did we ever see them?) well Ali Baba had a Camel but no zebra.
I admit I’m STUCK. Except for “Joe Camel” but that’s it.
    PEACE and Love…wood

    • Hey Woody,
“You said “But that’s it” Are you kidding that’s more than plenty AND You mentioned a couple I totally forgot about!
Thanx once again for “Knockin’ it outta the park” and more!
      Shoe

  3. I don’t even know where to begin here. Are these even songs anyone might have heard? Did Miss Frances sing these on “Ding Dong School”?

    • Okay so this is way out of place here on SMS. I have had this “Old Dude” crush on Alicia Keys after seeing her on the Steven Colbert show. She has this song “Zebras And Airplanes”. It’s not sixties, but what the hell . . .

      • Hey Jim,
Wow, you always amaze and surprise me! Yeah, the site is “Sixties” Music Secrets! But a pretty girl and a great song is always welcomed at SMS!
        Thanx….Beautiful!
        Rick

    • Hey Jim,
Yes you’ve heard them 2 peaked at number 16 on the Billboard charts and one peaked at number 23….However all made the top 10 here in L.A. And all were in heavy rotation on KRLA, KFWB and KHJ! One was a huge fm favorite as well!
Yeah, you’re gonna hate yourself when the answers are revealed
      Dontja love that?
      Rick

    • THANX “SHOE”…and WOW…WE DID IT! Dodgers World Series Champs!! Just a quick trip in the “WayBack” Machine but it was 1988 and bottom of the 9th, game 7 and Kirk Gibson LIMPS out of the dugout, takes about 4 or 5 warm up swi gs and then the PITCH and “THE SHOT HEARD ‘ROUND THE WORLD”..HOME RUN…DODGERS WIN SERIES..1988!!! And I remember watching this WITH YOU WOW..WHOA BUDDY!!
This weeks question WAS a GREAT EXERERCISE for our minds! Kool STUFF!
      thanx “Shoe”

      • Yes Woody,
I remember so well watching that game with you at our place on Fruitland!
        Thanx my old friend!
        Shoe

        • I think everybody (at least all of us LA guys) have a Kirk Gibson story. It is kind of like where were our parents when they heard about Pearl Harbor? My son and I were watching the game at home. Everybody was “WTF is Tommy Lasorda thinking? Anything short of a home run and he is out at first. He can’t get our of his own way. And then . . . I am so glad they finally won again last night. As much as Lasorda was the hero that week, I wouldn’t want to be the Ray’s manager going home today.

    • Hey Curtis,
No joke here and I’ll bet you know all three song’s better than most, Two were released in the very early 60’s and one came out in 1967!
      You got this brutha!
      Shoe

    • Hey Fred,
Getting warm! You got one, the other two were released in the very early 60’s!
By the way, it’s Simon and Garfunkel!
      Keep thinking my friend…
      Thanx,
      Rick
