The SMS Trivia Question of the Week 4 / 18…

Back again with an all new Trivia Question for. Tuesday April 18th. Brought to us each week by all the Groovey people over at Omnivore Recordings! Your perfect spot for all the music you didn’t know, you didn’t know! But, before we raise the curtain on this weeks quiz, we’d like to recognize the brilliant readers who answered last week’s question, which was all about everybody’s favorite “Mouseketeer and “Beach Party movie queen Ms. Annette Funicello and her summer hit from 1961 “Pineapple Princess.” A number of readers took a shot at the question but only Larry in Munich correctly answered all parts of the question! Long time SMS Super Genius Jeffery Conroy took a swat at it but struck out Thanx to one and all for keeping the conversation alive!

But now! It’s time for the brand new Trivia Quiz for Tues. April 18th.

The artist we’re focusing on this week enjoys or perhaps suffers from the unique distinction of sounding and looking like Elvis! At first that might sound like a good thing, but not so, although he scored  a number of charted singles “The Elvis Thing” cut his career short! Our local Top 40 station KRLA even ran a contest challenging listeners to a sort of “Guess Who”  which further helped to kill any credibility our artist might have earned! And that’s our question, what is the name of this Chicago native and  Elvis sound alike from the very early 60’s and give us the titles to at least two of his Top 40 hits ?

Thats it for this week..

Here’s a summary of what we need:

1) Give us the name of the early 60’s artist who was famous for looking and sounding too much like Elvis!

2) Give us the titles to at least two of his hits ?

Yeah we know it ain’t much and the photo is blurred. ( very hard to find pix on this guy, natch!) Sooo we’ll share an interesting story about our artist and one of his fans:

Although his success in the U.S. was limited his impact outside the U.S. was huge! To that point During Led Zeppelin’s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995 Robert Plant sighted our artist ( not Elvis) as one of his greatest influences! ( Perhaps with tongue firmly placed in cheek? )

  1. I was going with Terry Stafford as well..
Unaware of Task. But I’ll look him up… nice stumper Ricky…

    • Hey Curtis
Great. To see your back! We’ve missed you! Terry isn’t the guy we’re looking for, although he too sounds like “The King! Meanwhile as of right now, only Larry in Munich has correctly answered the question! Check his post here in the comments section for Larry’s answer! I’m very curious to find out if you’re familiar with this guy, so please let us know!
      Cheers,
      Rick

  2. You’re talking (or asking) about Ral Donner. I think he only had two real hits: You Don’t Know What You’ve Got (Until You lose It) and Girl of My Best Friend. (Both of which I spent my hard-earned money on, instead of buying anything by Annette Funicello.)

    • Good day my Munichian friend
WAY TO GO! Once more you’re the only reader who nailed this week’s question!
      Cheers,
      And well done!
      Rick

    • Hey Larry,
      One final comment re: Annette…
It was never about the music, it was always about how she looked in her “Mickey Mouse Club” sweater!
      Know what I’m sayin ?
      Danke Schoen!
      Rick

  3. Not sure but I think this is Terry Stafford.

Songs Suspicion and Amarillo by Morning.

    • Hey Steve!
Although we admit that this weeks question was quite vague, we still thought you and your encyclopedic mind would have nailed it Meanwhile the name we were looking for is Ral Donner! I’m guessing that name NOW rings a bell, I hope I’m r right… perhaps you’ll feel better knowing only one reader had the correct answer! Next question is only 6 days away!
      Cheers,
      Rick

      • Surprisingly, I’ve never heard of Ral Donner. Might have to do a bit of research on this guy. Oh well, there’s always next week’s quiz!
