P.S. all apologies ro Al Jardine from SMS for cutting your head off ! (depending on which device your viewing us on)
Okay…I slept late, knew the answers and really enjoyed Patrick’s Beach Boys background.
I saw the band waaaaaay back in 1964. If memory serves (ha ha) Al was in the band then.
Ah, those striped matching shirts!!!
Who else had ALL of those early records?
Thanks, Jeffrey. I knew nothing about cars, so most of the words to the hit “Shut Down” were odd to me. Why are they “tacking” up a car, not knowing the term “Tach”. Surfin USA also had huarache sandals and “all over Manhattan” which I didn’t know was an LA South Bay Beach Town, not NYC. But, the main use of the early Beach Boy albums was to play “Surfer Girl” at make-out parties. Remember them? Put on a slow ballad and everybody kiss their girlfriends of the moment for 2:35. Finally, I’ve always enjoyed knowing that “The Warmth of the Sun” was Brian’s response to the horrors of the Kennedy Assassination.
Brian, Carl and Dennis Wilson
Al Jardine
Mike Like
Surfin USA
Bruce and Terry
SUMMER MEANS FUN
DON’T RUN AWAY
Because we don’t “Love” Mike for the way he treated Brian?
And now, here’s the rest of the story:
1. The group was once known as The Pendletons, for the type of shirt, and I owned one.
2. Chuck Berry was the “co-author” because Surfin USA is just his Sweet Little Sixteen with surf words
3. Though I never heard of Bruce and Terry as a duo, I know that Terry Melcher was Doris Day’s only son, and that Dennis Wilson let Charles Manson live with him and tried to get Terry Melcher to record Manson’s songs.
As the Ripchords, they had a hit with Hey, Little Cobra, a car racing song like the Beach Boys’ hit Shut Down
4. I always enjoyed knowing that Bruce Johnson wrote the song, “I Write the Songs” for Barry Manilow, and thought it was funny that fans might have thought that Barry Manilow wrote that song.
Poor Al Jardine. Head cut off??? HELP ME RHONDA!!! Was that a trick question?
