The SMS Trivia Question for 6 / 28…

Yer dang straight! It’s time for the all new SMS Trivia Question for Tuesday June 28th. Brought to us each Tuesday by the very Groovey people at Omnivore Recordings! Your first and last stop for all the coolest music you didn’t know, you didn’t know! But hold on, before we unleash this week’s question, we’d like to recognize all the brilliant readers who chimed in on last week’s question!

First in, YET AGAIN with more than all the right answers was our old friend and colleague Mr. Jeffery Conroy! From “The Island of Burbank” Hey Mr. “C” you’re getting down right “habitual” Congrats my friend! Following Jeffery was our new pal in 60’s Trivia Mr. Ken Jones!  Great job once again Mr. “J” Wrapping it all up was our old friend and one of our favorite “Ladies of the Sixties Super Geniuses Ms. Libbie Jo Snyder! Way to go L J S. Congrats, Lady and Gents!

But Now! It’s time for the brand new Trivia quiz for the week!  In 1963, as this powerful and prolific decade began to unfurl The two most important bands of the decade and beyond had just begun to experience the spoils, demands, pressure and responsibilities that go hand and hand with success, celebrity and enormous wealth! In short order, and in response to this “Lifestyle Super Nova” both bands, primarily their principal song writer and completely independent of one another, wrote recorded and released a record about “escapism” or more precisely “Sanctuary! You, of course know who the two bands are, but can you identify the two songs we’re referencing? Here,s a hint: Both song titles are only three words long!

This one appears to be somewhat pesky but here’s my answer: 1) The Beatles and the Beach Boys, 2) ”There’s a Place” and ”In My Room”, and 3) both were released in July 1963 in the US but the Beatles’ song was first released in March as a track on their first UK album. Finally, the answer to your unasked bonus question is: ”Up On The Roof”, an “escapism” song by the Drifters which peaked at #5 in February of 1963 and was a bigger hit than either of the two aforementioned.

      • Yes, the Island of Burbank is alive and well…full of grandkids in the pool this summer…when they’re not playing video games.
        I enjoy these questions every week and usually have a clue. This week I must have been trippin.
        But…these answers would make for a good question down the line…just sayin’.
